Top Three Tuesday: Summer Hats

Whether you're hitting the beach, the pool, or just a long sunny brunch, don't forget to pick up your summer hat.  I have actually begun wearing one more frequently, since I started dyeing my hair, so I can keep that color lasting as long as the budget can stretch.

And this morning, I couldn't think of a THING to blog about, so I bugged Grace for some ideas.

So, here you have it. My top three favorite summer hats, one on a budget, and one a little more pricey.  All the budget ones are from Target, and I highly recommend making a Target run for their current hats/scarves!

3) The Sun Hat. At first glance, I may have put this in the same category as a fedora, but upon further reflection and study, this is a much stronger take on the 20s than the modern day fedora.  I found the most adorable one ever on Anthropologie's site (surprise, surprise).

Target, $12.99

2) The Floppy Hat.  Everyone loves a good floppy hat.  You feel like a celebrity sitting by the pool in one.  Make sure it has enough fold in it for you to be able to see.  The choices this year are endless...pops of neon, stripe, or something tied around it.  I actually haven't committed to a floppy yet, but this might be the year for it.

JCrew, $34.50

Target, $12.00
(see it's twin here for four times the price!)

1) The Fedora.  Gone are the days that only people like Justin Timberlake or Jason Mraz would wear this guy.  I actually bought one at ACL last year, just before it began to rain.  This is my favorite choice for a summer hat because it is wearable, small, and comfortable (if you get a looser fit, which I have for my HUGE HEAD). You also don't need to worry about walking through crowded areas in this, because it's small with a brim barely wider than your head!

Happy shopping!

Monday Follow Up-Miss USA II

How could I forget to post this video montage of Call me Maybe?!

Here it is.

Manic Monday: Miss USA Recap

Since I already watch shameful television shows such as the Bachelorette, Revenge, and Gossip Girl, why not admit that I also like to watch the pageants? Growing up, my gramma and I would get together and watch all pageants, making sure to take notes and tallies to see if we could predict the next crowned beauty.

Last night was similar, except no gramma (she's on a trip!) or ballots.  So the only similarity is that I still watch them..

Did you watch? Were you as baffled as I was by the outfits in the intro? And the fake runway viewers gasping and gaping through the catwalk while the ladies wore "punk"/debutante/derby dresses and fake smiles? Regardless, here are my top three favorites, and I'll warn you that this will be a spoiler alert if you haven't finished watching it.

3) Ohio-Audrey Bolte: I'm giving her third runner up on my list because she had a difficult time speaking clearly and staying on the topic while answering her tweeted in question (by the way, I wonder how many times my gramma asked what a tweet was as she watched with her nieces).  Her dress she also dubbed the yellow school bus, which I couldn't get out of my head after that.  However, she seemed fairly smart and fairly normal/non evil (did you see the dagger eyes Nevada gave anyone who tried to step in front of her spotlight?!)

2) Rhode Island-Olivia Culpo: She quoted Audrey Hepburn as her role model (love her, but it seemed as though other ladies cited mom or gramma as their role model...maybe there's more to the story there).  I'm glad she won.  She clearly has class & grace, and a killer body, so isn't that what's important here?

1) Oklahoma-Lauren Lundeen: So she has bangs, like me and/or Zooey D, which I love.  While watching her last night I actually began to realize how unruly my bangs are and that I desperately need a trim.  Anywho, Lauren (as was mentioned in the commentary, thank you Giuliana) was the only one to rock bangs in the pageant. She wore them well, and I also love her hair color.  She appeared to have zero percent body fat, and zero attitude, so she wins in my book.  If only the media had agreed...

It's ok to admit you were watching last night, too.  There wasn't much else on TV so you can even use that as the excuse.

Finally Friday.

Happy Friday, all. I am working a few shorts hours before embarking on a loveeeeeely half day with my friend Brittany who's in town for the weekend!  Lunch...nails...happy hour. What could be better?

My coworker sent me this yesterday...hysterical.

I'm also very glad that May has past and we have a new month to look forward to.  May was filled with many challenges, which can be summed up with this ecard.

Have a good weekend, all!

Thirsty Thursday: Champagne Thursday!

Have you seen "Failure to Launch"? While it's not the most sensational acting by any means...it did inspire a great tradition...Champagne Thursday!

My roommate and I try to keep this going as much as possible.  I couldn't find a clip of it, but here's the scene:

Paula: Hey, hey.
Kit: Hey, Paula. Good news. It's Champagne Thursday.
Paula: It's Friday.
Kit: Uh, yeah, Thursday came twice this week.
Paula: For the third straight week.
Kit: There's talk of making it permanent.
Paula: Oh, kind of like Daylight Saving's Time?
Kit: Right, but for booze.

And while we're talking about Zooey Deschanel, here's her best scene, while discussing how to get rid of a pesky mockingbird.

Here are the champagne cocktails I want to try this weekend:

1. The Bellini. Founded by Harry's Bar in Venice (one of my favorite places in the world!!). Use ripe peaches, or creme de peche, with a 1:4 ratio mixed with Prosecco.

2. Kir Royale. Creme de cassis (coconut syrup), topped with champagne.

3. Champagne Cocktail. The ultimate classic; begin by soaking a sugar cube in bitters, drop into flute of champagne, and garnish with a twist of lemon.
Enjoy!
